PULVERIZING
Pavement pulverizing is
an innovative and cost effective method of reconstructing failed asphalt.
Common defects that may typically necessitate pulverization include: Severe
cracking, polishing (polishing sharp edges of aggregates due to continuous
traffic) and flushing (excess asphalt "bleeding" through the pavement).
Most pavement pulverizing
projects are designed to pulverize (grind up) asphalt pavement along with
the top 3-4 inches of existing aggregate base course. This allows the co-mixing
of materials to create a homogenous material used as base thusly increasing
the base depth and structural strength. Another reason that pulverizing has
grown in popularity over the past two decades, besides the aforementioned,
is the fact that most pulverizing projects are open to vehicular traffic during
construction, minimizing down time and inconveniences.
In order
to remain competitive and self-sufficient, as well as to provide clients the
best possible service and price, Stark Asphalt owns and operates its own pavement
pulverizing equipment. In fact, in 1996 we decided that the investment into
the new Wirgten WR2500 pulverizer was not a luxury, but a necessity. It is
true that other large Midwestern companies offer this service. However, as
part of our continuing quest to remain self-sufficient and competitive, we
believe this investment was well worth it and so do our clients.
